After reading other reviews on this toaster and also reading in Consumer Reports magazine that it was highly rated, I purchased this toaster. This will be my last expensive toaster I buy. I must have gotten one of the lemons. Consumer Reports says: "A toaster you can count on. Produced batch after batch of evenly toasted bread in our extensive tests". What a joke!! My toaster only toasts ONE side at a time. It's like it's on the bagel setting each time. I would not waste my money on this toaster. The last toaster I bought was a T-Fal which I also paid big bucks for. That did the same thing -- only toasted one side. Next time I'm buying a cheap $20 toaster.

I agree with the general positive evaluations in the 4 & 5 star group but want to note one annoying problem:
When the toaster is plugged into the same circuit as my kitchen radio and the toaster is operating, it produces electrical "noise" (noise coming from the radio speaker) which makes it impossible to listen to the radio. Stops toasting, noise disappears.
Not a "breaker" of a problem for me, given how little time it's actually operating, but just a point to be aware of in making your decision.

I bought this toaster based upon testing and rating by a national testing organization for consumers. I like the way it toasts frozen items with the defrost button. Regular bread toasting, not so much. The side of the bread facing the middle will get done just right, while the side facing the outside will be barely toasted, if at all. Also, the outside of the toaster will get very hot, too hot to touch. At half the price the toaster would be acceptable and receive 4 stars from me, but at the current price, I believe it is unacceptable. I have considered returning it, but that is a lot of trouble and I like the way it does eggo's in the AM.

This toaster really does the job. I threw my toaster oven out after the toast came out spotty. This one handles English muffins and tells you when the toast, etc. will be done.

I saw some good reviews for this toaster so I guess I was expecting more than the toaster was capable of delivering. I purchased this toaster to replace a 20 year old Oster toaster which worked just fine and now I don't know why I spent the extra $80.00. The old toaster had one long slot in which to toast, compared with two smaller slots for this toaster. The Oster toaster outside was cool to the touch, allowing you to move it around while (or just after) toasting. This new toaster is very hot to the touch - a factor to consider with small children in the house. The stainless steel is hard to keep clean, compared with the white finish on the old Oster. The only two good things about the Cuisinart is that it does toast evenly (I guess that's the real purpose, after all) and the timer lets you know exactly how many seconds remain before the toast is ready, a factor which is interesting, but not essential. I wouldn't spend the money if I had it to do over again.
