"Got a lemon!"
 2010-07-03
By flowerbud104
After reading other reviews on this toaster and also reading in Consumer Reports magazine that it was highly rated, I purchased this toaster. This will be my last expensive toaster I buy. I must have gotten one of the lemons. Consumer Reports says: "A toaster you can count on. Produced batch after batch of evenly toasted bread in our extensive tests". What a joke!! My toaster only toasts ONE side at a time. It's like it's on the bagel setting each time. I would not waste my money on this toaster. The last toaster I bought was a T-Fal which I also paid big bucks for. That did the same thing -- only toasted one side. Next time I'm buying a cheap $20 toaster.

"One significant reservation...." 2010-06-30
By Robert L. Johnson (Bear, DE)
I agree with the general positive evaluations in the 4 & 5 star group but want to note one annoying problem:

When the toaster is plugged into the same circuit as my kitchen radio and the toaster is operating, it produces electrical "noise" (noise coming from the radio speaker) which makes it impossible to listen to the radio. Stops toasting, noise disappears.

Not a "breaker" of a problem for me, given how little time it's actually operating, but just a point to be aware of in making your decision.

"Not worth the money!"

I bought this toaster based upon testing and rating by a national testing organization for consumers. I like the way it toasts frozen items with the defrost button. Regular bread toasting, not so much. The side of the bread facing the middle will get done just right, while the side facing the outside will be barely toasted, if at all. Also, the outside of the toaster will get very hot, too hot to touch. At half the price the toaster would be acceptable and receive 4 stars from me, but at the current price, I believe it is unacceptable. I have considered returning it, but that is a lot of trouble and I like the way it does eggo's in the AM.

"real toast"

This toaster really does the job. I threw my toaster oven out after the toast came out spotty. This one handles English muffins and tells you when the toast, etc. will be done.

"Toaster is just ok"

By College Prof (Nebraska USA)
I saw some good reviews for this toaster so I guess I was expecting more than the toaster was capable of delivering. I purchased this toaster to replace a 20 year old Oster toaster which worked just fine and now I don't know why I spent the extra $80.00. The old toaster had one long slot in which to toast, compared with two smaller slots for this toaster. The Oster toaster outside was cool to the touch, allowing you to move it around while (or just after) toasting. This new toaster is very hot to the touch - a factor to consider with small children in the house. The stainless steel is hard to keep clean, compared with the white finish on the old Oster. The only two good things about the Cuisinart is that it does toast evenly (I guess that's the real purpose, after all) and the timer lets you know exactly how many seconds remain before the toast is ready, a factor which is interesting, but not essential. I wouldn't spend the money if I had it to do over again.

"At last, a decent toaster"
 2010-07-22
By P. Kennedy (Springfield, VA USA)
I bought this toaster after reading lukewarm reviews on a variety of brands. This one is sleeker and more modern than many other models. There is a little lever used to lift the hot toast further out of the toaster. The footprint of the model is fairly small, it seems very modern with the blue lights, and it makes a decent slice of toast.

"Amazing toaster"

I recently purchased this toaster and it was one of my best purchases. The ease of use and the consistency of browning makes this a top notch toaster. The appearance is very clean and slick. Love the top warming rack and the uplift to get smaller pieces of toast out of the hot toaster with ease.

"WE HAVE HOPE!" 2010-07-20
By lynnwin
This is our third Haier digital toaster. Our daughter gave us our first one many years ago (1996 or so) when we retired to the Outer Banks. It worked along nicely and then after a few problems, flung it's innards about the kitchen and died. We had liked it, and since it had worked for more than ten years, we bought a new one. But, this one went into collapse within two weeks. However, we felt that perhaps we had not read the rules, and so we invested in - "Haier Digital Toaster III." So far, we like it just fine. However, do not fail to read the rules.Haier TST240SS Stainless-Steel Long-Slot 4-Slice Digital Toaster

"Great shape, good features, moderate performance"
 2010-07-18
By Martin (Atlanta, GA)
This toaster fit exactly what we needed - ability to toast more than 2 pieces of bread at a time in a small space. By shaping the slots length-wise this allows toasting more bread in a very efficient space. The knob to select how dark to toast the bread is not intuitive, but easy to use once it's understood. The rack that extends above the toaster is a nice feature, but won't be used often. It would be nice to be able to tell the toaster when I'm only using one slot to toaster 1 or 2 pieces of bread. It would also be nice to have a bagel setting, but interestingly the heating elements inside the toaster (I've bought two of these now) really only work on the outside of the toaster slot -- the elements on the inner part of the slots (both sides) don't heat up much at all, so effectively it works like a bagel toaster. Despite this, bread comes out toasted reasonably well and is not very uneven. I haven't used this toaster enough with large quantities of toast to know if it has the problem many toasters have with maintaining the level of "brown-ness" as the toaster heats up across multiple toasting sessions. Overall, the toaster is light weight and doesn't feel very substantial, but so far (a few weeks) has worked fine.

This toaster works great.
It is two slots and the same price as a good one slot toaster.
Easy to use. Easy to clean.

"It's EVIL.....unplugged at last!" 2010-07-19
By Kittyhouse5 (Twin Cities, MN)
That's right folks, our second Back to Basics brand egg and toast maker has spontaneously combusted right before our eyes! My husband and I were peacefully minding our own business, leisurely painting the kitchen and living room on a stormy evening in Minnesota, when the stupid toaster went crazy and had a fit. We had moved it from it's cushy location nestled underneath the cabinets to an out in the open spot on the kitchen island. Was it mad? Did it miss it's friend the coffee pot? Maybe it just objected to the new color scheme? The darn thing started making a loud grinding noise, like something electrical shorting out, then black smoke came rolling out of the toaster part. It was not even turned on! BAD toaster! You're going in the garbage!

Anyway, we were very lucky to be home when this happened, it could have set the whole house on fire. Guess I won't be having sesame bagels for breakfast in the morning... Sigh.

Do not buy this product. It has proven to be hazardous.

"More than a toaster - a paradigm shift."

It's not even fair to label this appliance a toaster. This miraculous invention makes an egg sandwich in three minutes: toasts your muffin, poaches your egg, and even warms your ham and cheese... the whole bit. Put down the breakfast bars and don't be afraid to hit the snooze because this thing will change your life!

"A Good Toaster But Doesn't Last"
 2010-07-18

This is handy to have for a quick breakfast but honestly it will only last a year tops. We have had three of these. I can't find anything else that can fix the egg, sausage and toast or biscuit all at once in one machine.

I absolutely loved this egg and muffin toaster until after only one and a half years of using it (only about once a month), the toaster and egg poacher stopped heating. I really expected it to last longer, especially since I rarely used it.

"Toasts Unevenly, but am still happy with the purchase."
 2010-07-22
By James G. Schoch (Bloomington, IN United States)
Bought this when I moved into an apartment so that I could toast breads in the morning and avoid turning on the oven (in usually HOT east Texas) in the evenings. Overall, this product is delivering what I wanted. Satisfies a wide range of heating requirements (I even smear Sweet Baby Rays on baby backs and "BBQ" them in the this).

Two observations after using this for 4 months. The toasting element is inconsistant across the interior surface by at least 1 setting. If you put 3 pieces of toast\bagels across the interior rack, the center section of the unit will toast the bagel\bread to a crispy brown while 80% of the surface of the toast on each side will be warm\hot but at least a setting behind in browning. Second observation. The unit is larger than most toaster ovens and multiple task ovens that I have had in the past -- so it seems to eat up counter space. After 20 years in my home with lots of counter space, this is just a little larger than I would like in this apartment, and it basically consumes all the horizontal contertop between the frig and oven.

But I love the design and looks of the unit, and the crumb\drippings tray on the bottom it top drawer when it comes to easy cleaning\use, and with 450% baking plus a higher setting for broil it satisfies all of my baking needs. Plus that additional size I wish wasn't there means it can fully handles a 13' Papa Murphy's pie with no scrunching. And a full rack (sliced in half) of baby backs.

This is an awesome oven. I use it for all my oven needs. It is really nice to use it in the summer. The oven heats quickly and cools off quickly keeping my kitchen much cooler than my regular oven.

"I Found My Perfect Toaster Oven"
 2010-07-21
By Queen Bee
In the short time I have had this oven it has been used for roasting Cornish Hens, baking cheesecake, toasting bread, bagels, baking rolls, corn muffins, etc, and baking cookies. Everything has turned out beautifully. It is also easy to clean. I bought it to avoid using my large more commercial type of oven but wanted something more upscale than most toaster ovens and it fits the bill. It is the best toaster oven (has convection, too) I have ever used.

Have had this for almost two months now and love it. Could not find anything similar in my local stores for the price. Well constructed and easy to use. Nice not to have to use my large oven for small meals.

"Fantastic oven!"
 2010-07-20
By Iluvamazon (Athens, Georgia)
My rickety little cheap toaster oven died recently and I decided to get something smart, solid, attractive, and easy to use. I read the reviews by other amazon customers and also noted it was rated number one by Consumer Reports. I was not disappointed. In fact, I'm thrilled! This oven is like a professional piece of equipment. The designers have thought of everything to make cooking automatic and fool proof. Hit the pizza button and it makes beautiful pizza. Give it a quick wipe and it's clean. And it's so roomy inside that a 5-pound chicken would fit in easily. After I've used it a while I might find some shortcomings, but for now it's exactly what I need to completely ignore my big regular oven. Good riddance!

"Great toast, but more than i needed"
 2010-07-19
By jules (Sun Valley, ID)
I was sick of having burnt toast from my old toaster oven so i went on a mission to find a new oven. I did not want a slice toaster, as i like to be able to heat leftover pizza, and make gilled cheese in my oven. After reading Cooks Illustrated, Consumer reports and other online reviews i decided on this one. It works great- toast, pizza, english muffins, all come out evenly toasted, in about 3-4 m. The modern design and push button features are also nice. My only concern is that its HUGE! It can toast 6 pieces of bread, which for a large family would be great. Overall very happy with my purchase

"There are lots of spoiled American consumers!!!"
 2010-07-17
By M. ishida (Northridge)
I bought this one with less than $150 at Amazon and it is a great deal for such a well built oven! There is one strong criticisms on this product ... most likely "finger burn holding the handle". How spoiled they are! When you touch hot surface, protect yourself! Learn how to use rather than blaming others! In our household, everyone holds handle with palm up! No brainer! I don't know when we adapted the habit but I believe it was long time ago. Also the fan noise of convection mode is surprisingly quiet considering the size of fan. I saw many reviews complaining the noise but they don't know how difficult it is to make small fans move large amount of air quietly (Have you seen quiet small vacuum cleaners? Never!) What I am saying is patient way of saying "Don't have unreasonable expectation and criticize when you can't have it". Other person says overly complicated operation! C'mon! It took less than a few minutes to read and learn from user's manual. It is one time deal and easier than going to bathroom! Don't people know the Electronic digital controls made Home appliances much more reliable because there is less physical wear? (I appreciate the small foot print because of it) Again: blaming others for own deficiencies or laziness! I really appreciate the way someone designed the good product with such a reasonable price! My old much more expensive Krups was a lot noisier and ugly! With the price, I will not complain even if it breaks down in 5 years and it has 3 year warranty!

"Very Versatile Product"
 2010-07-16
By Booklover (La Habra, CA USA)
I purchased this for my daughter who is living in an apartment without a working oven. It was to replace an older smaller Black and Decker toaster oven which was still working. Because of its larger size it functions as an oven as well as a toaster. I have had an older smaller Cuisinart convection toaster oven for several years and love it, using it instead of my wall oven when baking smaller, "just for two," portions. My daughter has been very pleased with her new large Cuisinart.

"Why didn't any review say the entire outside of the oven gets extremely HOT!"
 2010-07-16
By Mary F. Tomaselli (New York City, NY USA)
We just bought the Cuisinart tob 195 because of all the positive ratings and reviews read about here and everywhere else. Why did NO ONE say that the entire outside of the unit (except the door and handle) gets EXTREMELY HOT? You could get a bad burn if you touch the top or sides when it's in operation. You can't keep anything in a plastic bag (bread?) on top of the unit. I am very displeased with my purchase! mary tomaselli

"Don't stick your hand in the fire either...." 2010-07-01
By John J. Cummings (Okeechobee FL (on top of the big lake))
A fine piece of equipment. Works as advertised. As far as the complaint about the hot handle, (now I know why they put stupid warnings on labels), IN ORDER TO COOK FOOD YOU HAVE TO GET IT HOT..
btw It toasts better than any toaster I've owned in the last 70 yrs.
